| FERNANDEZ |
Fernandez was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where she studied Fine Art in the Armando Reveron Institute (now known as UNEARTE). She also studied Social Sciences, Media and Drama in the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello. Where she comes from has a strong influence on her. It is also present in her work even though there is a certain distance on the way she observes the world around her. There is a melancholy that drove her recent work. It is linked to when she faced the fact that there was no coming back to her country. Therefore, she tried to keep on holding the unattainable by depicting an otherworldliness in her art.
“Could one make poetry out of the horror of witnessing, remotely and through the eyes of friends and relatives via social media, the daily destruction of the place I used to call home”
Methodological and rational in her technique, and also in the approach of her subjects, she is also quite organized. Fernandez tends to work her subjects and formats of her artwork to a certain degree of exhaustion. She knows it will lead to a natural sorting. There is always something in her artworks that seem to be hiding, ready to be unveiled by the spectator’s eye.
After a solo show in Venezuela in 2013-2014, Fernandez is now represented in our galeries and her work is part of private collections in Taiwan, Spain, USA, UK, France, Germany and Belgium.
