BIOGRAPHIE
Jean-Claude Quilici’s art is a declaration of love to the Mediterranean. Born in Marseille in 1941 from Corsican parents, he rubbed shoulders with the great Masters of Provençal Painting at a very young age. Trained at the School of Fine Arts, he had his first exhibition at the age of 17. The artist got distinguished and honoured by numerous French painting prizes. Then he established his success in 1971 by exporting his art across the Atlantic. A Provençal painter with an international reputation, Quilici dazzles us.
Subjugated by the colors, fascinated by the light, the nature that Jean-Claude Quilici brushes is as shimmering as it is expressive. Painted from motifs, his canvases transpose us to the heart of provincial landscapes. Intoxicated by the perfume of lavender fields, the viewer is amazed by the silvery reflection of olive trees. He can also be dazzled by the whiteness of Cycladic architecture. Therefore, the viewer is constantly charmed by the vibrant touch of the painter.
The artist works with a brush and a knife. So Quilici’s rich and intense palette can contrast by its luminosity with the deep black shadows of cypresses or cliff blanks. Hungry for blues, he declines them by all their nuances. Cobalt, Prussia and Ultramarine enchant us as much as they intoxicate us. In love with light Quilici gives us to discover the emotion of landscapes invested by time and memories.
